RA raises cardiac risk even without CAD
Key clinical point: Rheumatoid arthritis significantly increases the risk of adverse cardiac events, particularly among patients who also have coronary artery disease (CAD), but also in those without CAD.
Major finding: RA alone conferred a 63% greater risk of myocardial infarction vs. RA without CAD.
Study details: A population-based cohort study of 125,331 patients registered in the Western Denmark Heart Registry who had coronary angiography from 2003 through 2016.
