Absence of Koebnerization After Laser Therapy

Dermatol Surg; 2016 Apr; Sachsman, et al

People with psoriasis who underwent laser treatment did not experience koebnerization on the face, neck, or scalp, according to a study involving 38 individuals. This was the case regardless of psoriasis severity or type of medication they were taking.

Investigators reviewed participants’ medical records, looking at duration and severity of psoriasis, baseline psoriasis treatment, laser modality and settings, facial areas treated, and number of sessions. Among the results:

• 7 patients were on oral systemic medications, 14 were on biologic agents, and 3 were on combination therapy.

• None of the participants experienced subsequent koebnerization.

• None experienced skin infections, delayed healing, or scarring.

Despite the results, the authors advised that clinicians discuss risk of koebnerization with those who wish to undergo laser procedures.
