Reduced physical activity hinders dementia prevention efforts

Key clinical point: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has reduced levels of physical activity, and thus may impact efforts to prevent primary and secondary dementia.

Major finding: Physical inactivity is a known modifiable risk factor for dementia; however, levels of physical activity among adults have decreased by more than 20% and sitting time has increased by more than 28% since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, based on early results from a global questionnaire.
