Survival Trends in Hodgkin Lymphoma
Cancer Med; ePub 2016 Mar 21; Koshy, Fairchild, et al
Since 1983, there has been a significant stage migration in early stage Hodgkin lymphoma, as well as an improvement in survival over time that was particularly notable for those with early stage disease, according to a study of 35,680 patients with Hodgkin lymphoma. Researchers found:
• The stage breakdown in 1983 and 2011 according to A and B symptoms was:
| 1A | IIA | IIIA | IVA | IB | IIB | IIIB | IVB | |
| 1983 | 18% | 21% | 12% | 5% | 6% | 11% | 12% | 15% |
| 2011 | 9% | 29% | 10% | 6% | 4% | 16% | 12% | 13% |
• Median follow-up for the entire cohort was 6.1 years.
• On multivariate analysis, HR for mortality of patients diagnosed in 2006 was 0.60 and 0.40 for patients diagnosed in 2011, both vs 1983.
• For stage I and II patients diagnosed in 2006, HRs were 0.62 and 0.40, respectively, vs 1983.
• For stage III and IV patients diagnosed in 2006, HRs were 0.72 and 0.74, respectively, vs 1983.
