Researchers examine learning curve for gender-affirming vaginoplasty
Key clinical point: Patient outcomes after gender-affirming vaginoplasty may improve as surgeons gain experience with the procedure.
Major finding: After 50 cases, there was a lower incidence of urinary stream abnormalities (7.7% vs. 16.3%), introital stenosis (3.9% vs. 12%), and revision surgery (that is, elective, cosmetic, or functional revision within 6 months; 19.2% vs. 44%), compared with the 26 cases that followed, for one surgeon.
Study details: A retrospective study of 76 patients who underwent vaginoplasty performed for gender affirmation.
